Two weeks or so ago I executed my second research trip to the Hunter Valley. I wanted to check out more of the sites where the convict gangs left their mark on the Great North Road, and to check more of the history surrounding the Settler's Road to St Albans and on to Bucketty. Apparently the hugely expensive 1826 road built by convict chain gangs- The Great North Road was an expensive failure. The Settler's Road, was actually just like it sounds, full of early settlers and more densely populated and thus safer than the Great North Road. I had a lovely time in at Wollombi court house, now a museum, with an extremely kind gentleman who opened it up for me even though it was supposed to be closed.
It was a typical, clear blue day, not a cloud in the sky, check out the photos.
